Whose Line is it Anyway!

Gajraula: I was on my way to Noida-new job and new place. A friend (cum colleague) had accompanied me for the journey, chatting our way through the 5 hour drive. As it happens a number of times while driving, the conversation shifted to the plight of Indian Roads and what (more so on when) will the government do something about it.

It was then when we encountered a construction site, where trees were being laid off to make way for the concrete road we humans so desperately crave for. The conversation (so vehemently on the roads till that time) then shifted to pollution, renewable energy and whatnot. We discussed at great length about how a "sustainable" future can be ensured by planting trees, switching to eco friendly products, the untapped renewable energy sector, Tesla and the need to be aware. The free flowing ideas on how to improve the world were brought to a standstill by a very different sight- a young girl (probably 14-15) collecting the seeds from the now burst open fruit and pushing it deep into the ground.

The message from the silent girl was loud and clear- she was not going to just comment and let things be, but was actually doing her part. Seeds dispersed by that broken fruit might have led to a tree, but with that girl’s efforts that seed will become a tree for sure. How simple yet effective in the long run!

We can have a number of discussions/blame a number of people over stuff- but once we start making  efforts can we actually achieve something! Lets start doing rather than blaming the government, and take actions ourselves. Littering on the road and then talking about swacch bharat will not help anyone.

Well, instead of preaching, I took one oath today- I will plant one tree every 2 months. Simple & possible goal- I am sure many others can adopt this. Then try reducing the number of months (and get down to planting one every week!).

                              Baby steps eh?

  1. Not bad :)
Good luck with that... maybe I get the urge to take up a productive and eco-friendly goal as well ... in the near future :)

  2. Nice, but ensure sustainability also. We took up same goal last year.We planted sapling in garden, We faced the problem sapling was destroyed by animals or they died due to lack of care.
Wish you luck.. its a really nice goal.
